Field visits

Discover Dijon's world-class plant science research platforms

Dijon is a major centre for scientific research in the area of plant sciences.

The INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) Dijon centre hosts three outstanding experimental platforms: CA-SYS is the first field experimental platform following agro-ecological practices in France; 4PMI is a high-throughput phenotyping platform specifically dedicated to the phenotyping of below ground plant-microbe interactions, and GENOSOL is a unique infrastructure for soil microbes conservation and study.

The organisers of ICLGG 2019 are offering participants the chance to discover these experimental platforms and associated field trials with two optional field visits, free for all registered attendees.

Please note:

  • The number of places for these field visits is limited and are attributed on a “first come, first served” basis. We advise you to complete your registration early in order to guarantee your place.
  • The two optional visits take place at the same time. For that reason, you may only choose one of the two options during your registration.

OPTION #1 - High-tech genomic and genetic experimental platforms

Visit location: INRA Dijon campus (transport to and from the conference venue is provided)

Date and time: Friday May 17th, 2019

  • Departure from ICLGG conference venue: 9am
  • Return to ICLGG conference venue: 11:30am

During this visit, you will take part in a guided tour of the following experimental platforms:

4PMI Platform

Phenotyping Platform for Plant and Plant Microorganisms Interactions

A high-throughput phenotyping platform for automated plant material production and phenotypic characterization

  • Suitable for root and shoot phenotyping
  • Adapted to plant microorganisms interactions
  • Adapted to many plant species

GenoSol platform

This platform was created in 2008 to provide a technical and logistical structure for soil microbial genetic resources acquisition, storage, characterization and provision.

Genosol is composed of:

  • A national Genetic Resources Center for natural and cultivated soils
  • A molecular analyses and developments laboratory
  • An Environmental Information System for data management and storage

OPTION #2 - Field experiments and agroecology platform

Visit location: Bretenières experimental station (30 minutes from ICLGG venue – transport is provided)

Date and time: Friday May 17th, 2019

  • Departure from ICLGG conference venue: 9am
  • Return to ICLGG conference venue: 12:00pm

During this visit, you will take part in a guided tour of the following installations:

Legume experimental field trials

ICLGG attendees will be able to visit experimental field trials with a presentation of various research programs and results carried out by the members of the AgroEcology joint research team, including the PeaMUST project.

Find out more about PeaMUST here: https://www.peamust-project.fr/

CA-SYS Platform

CA-SYS (Co-designed Agroecological System experiment) is a long-term experimental platform on agroecology at various scales. It is located within the INRA “Domaine d’Epoisses” experimental unit near Dijon and covers an innovative experimental framework of 120 ha.

The goals of the CA-SYS platform are:

  • To acquire knowledge on agroecological systems
  • To design and evaluate different agroecological systems
  • To study the transition towards these agroecological systems

This platform carries out various legume field trials and/or nurseries on pea, faba bean, lentil, lupin.
