Biography

Dr. Soraya Leal-Bertioli – Senior Research Scientist – University of Georgia, USA

 

Dr. Soraya Leal-Bertioli obtained her PhD at The University of Nottingham (UK) on molecular characterization of entomopathogenic fungi.

Moving back to Brazil, she was appointed Research Scientist at Embrapa working with wild species of peanut: characterization, creation of genetic and genomic tools and pre-breeding.

In 2013, Soraya started at UGA as a visiting scientist and, in 2017, was appointed a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Plant Pathology. Her interest is in the use of wild species for peanut improvement using genomics.
